earthquake update

For my blogging friends, I thank you for your expressions of concern. Certainly that is the biggest quake I have ever experienced in my 48 years here. Standing in the open doorway with the crashing sounds of flying objects and rattle of walls and windows, it seemed like a never-ending amusement park ride. (and I don't like that kind of ride)

Trains stopped and many people were stuck. Fifty people sought refuge overnight at the church.
Most of the injuries this distance from the epi-center were caused by falling objects. With many activities cancelled today, there will be plenty of time to clean up. For a city the size of Tokyo we got off fairly easy this time and the TV footage makes us aware of how blessed we are.

  1. Glad you're okay, Julie. I thought our building had suddenly been converted to a sea going vessel, felt like I was on the deck, and the sea was rough!

  2. Oh dear! From this far away it is a feeling of helplessness as the world witnesses yet another natural disaster. One has to wonder why humanity chooses to destroy itself in futile wars and oppression when nature does such a good job.

  13. So glad to hear that you are safe and sound. The pictures we've seen have been terrible and then this morning we heard about the nuclear reactor. You are all in my prayers and I hope the earth will settle down now it has demanded our respect again.

  16. Julie - Thanks you for letting us all know that you are safe. The news coverage shows such horrible devastation! Mother Nature is surely in charge - as much as we humans like to think otherwise. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. We are all thinking of you.
